From a Classroom Joke to a Nation Called Egg: MicroCon Welcomes One of Its Most Unexpected Delegations

Some micronations are born from grand political ideas. Others from centuries of history that never happened.

And then there’s Egg.

The Democratic Republic of Egg began in a Minnesota classroom after a misheard question somehow became a constitution. Most school projects disappear by summer break. Egg didn’t. It built a functioning democratic republic with elections every three months, three branches of government, eight counties with names like New Yolk and Las Eggas, a nuclear agency with more than 100 donated Geiger counters, and a YouTube audience of more than 3,000 curious followers.

Now, four members of Egg are heading to the sold-out MicroCon 27: North America in San Diego.

Three seats are already spoken for. The fourth? That’s democracy, Egg-style. Their online community will watch candidates make their case before voting on who earns the final ticket to California.

What they’re looking forward to isn’t just the yacht party, conference, or games. It’s something harder to manufacture.

A room full of people who understand.

Whether a nation was founded as serious political expression or as an impulsive classroom idea, Egg sees MicroCon as proof that there is no single path to nationhood. Every flag, constitution, tradition, and passport tells a different story. That’s what makes the gathering special.

And San Diego couldn’t be a better backdrop. Palm trees, the Pacific, sunsets over the water, and a city that feels, as Egg describes it, like “a home away from home.” It’s the kind of place where conversations last long after the conference ends and diplomatic friendships are born over coffee… or on the deck of a yacht.

“The Democratic Republic of Egg proves one of my favorite things about the micronational community,” said The Sultan of Slowjamastan. “You never know where the next great nation will come from. A classroom became a country, and now that country is joining us in San Diego. We’re honored to welcome Egg to the sold-out MicroCon 27 family.”

Some nations wait for history.

Egg almost missed it.

The Democratic Republic of Egg secured its place at MicroCon 27: North America just before the doors closed—for good.

Yes, the conference is officially SOLD OUT.

But don’t let that stop you.

And trust me… this isn’t just another conference. It’s a gathering of dreamers, diplomats, presidents, monarchs, founders, and people just crazy enough to create countries where none existed before. Four unforgettable days in San Diego that simply can’t be replicated.

History has a funny way of making room for one more.
