MicroCon 27 Through the Eyes of Duckionary

MicroCon 27 is shaping up to be a collision of worlds, and few figures embody that more than Archduke Arthur de Tourneau of the Parliamentary Monarchy of Duckionary. A micronation founder since 2018, Arthur rules over a scattered patchwork of lands across Europe, a modest 4.35 square kilometers home to 47 citizens from 18 nations. He’s built more than borders—he’s built a civic community, lectures, exhibitions, and a wry sense of humor that makes Duckionary impossible to ignore.

“New phone, who dis?” – Archduke Arthur de Tourneau

“I remember my first meeting with the Sultan,” Arthur recalls, flashing the kind of grin reserved for stories you’ve told too many times, yet never get tired of. “March 2022, Munich. I was green, naïve, skipping a Latin test to hop a train. By the end of the day, a friendship was forged that’s still going strong.”

Fast forward to Aigues-Mortes in September 2024, where the two reconvened for the prestigious Godet d’Or ball. “We visited the salt marshes before the gala,” Arthur says. “Slowjamastan and Duckionary both took home the Golden Flamingo Awards. Imagine being handed a micronational Oscar—it’s absurd, wonderful, and exactly what this world needs.”

The Sultan recalls fond memories: “Arthur embodies the spirit of micronationalism—curious, committed, and a little mischievous,” he says. “Every meeting feels like discovering a new corner of the world, even if it’s only 4.35 kilometers.”

For MicroCon 27: North America in San Diego, Arthur is venturing across the Atlantic for the first time. “I want to meet the American delegates I’ve only known through emails,” he says, eyes glinting with anticipation. “And, of course, spend time with the Sultan and finally meet the Chief Porder Batrol Agent. Beyond the conference, California is calling—its cities, its monuments, even a few hidden micronations along the way. Mexico is on the list too.”

And MicroCon 27: EU in Aigues-Mortes? “Returning there feels like stepping back into a familiar story,” Arthur says. “The centuries-old walls, the camaraderie, the gala—it’s a highlight every time. I can’t wait to explore the surrounding towns and lagoons again.”

Prince Jean Pierre of Aigues-Mortes sums it up best: “When these micronations gather, it’s not about territory or politics—it’s about imagination, friendship, and the thrill of making the impossible tangible.”

It’s always a great day in Aigues-Mortes

MicroCon 27 is more than a conference. It’s a meeting of minds, ambitions, and, sometimes, the kind of mischief that only micronations can conjure. And with figures like Arthur, The Sultan, and Prince Jean Pierre in the mix, it’s going to be unforgettable.
