Seriously Silly, Dangerously Dignified: Slabovia Crashes MicroCon 27
Slabovia is officially on the map for MicroCon 27: North America, happening August 6–8, 2027 in San Diego, California—and by “officially,” we mean they’ve registered, packed the ceremonial llama robes, and are ready to descend on the West Coast in glorious, ridiculous majesty.
At the helm is HRM King George 2.0—also known as George Bragg—a man whose full royal title is so long it could double as a small novel. Let’s just say it includes “Llord of the Llamas,” “Governor of the Bank of Slabovia,” and “Grand Master of Slabovian Rules Chess,” and that’s barely scratching the surface. A veteran of the micronational scene for over 25 years, King George 2.0 has been guiding Slabovia since it was just a weird thread on a BBS. Now, it’s a proud kingdom with its own tourism slogan: “Slabovia: Seriously Silly.”
San Diego will mark King George’s triumphant return to MicroCon, a place he describes as “truly amazing”… and “VERY stressful”—especially when he hosted the third MicroCon himself. From carefully curating speaker blocks to surviving 90°F heat with a busted A/C, he lived to tell the tale. But don’t ask him to do it again. (See highlights from MicroCon 3 HERE)
What keeps him coming back? The people. The connections. The sheer joy of seeing the creative chaos that other micronations bring. From gala nights to diplomatic receptions, it’s a reunion of kindred spirits in capes and crowns. “If you’ve never been,” he says, “you’ll see that there’s no right or wrong way to be a micronation. You’ll leave inspired—and probably full of weird new ideas.”
One surprise for first-timers? The shocking lack of egos in a room full of monarchs and presidents. “There’s very little narcissism,” King George insists. “We’re really just approachable nerds with regalia.”
For him, the most memorable moment of any MicroCon came this past year in Montreal, when he was inducted into the Micronational Hall of Excellence. “Sure, I knew it was coming,” he admits (he is on the board that runs it), “but I voted against myself just to be funny.” Naturally, the vote still passed.
In August of 2027, King George is looking forward to soaking in the San Diego vibe—his first time in the city. The zoo, the USS Midway, and possibly even a phone-free detour to Tijuana are on his radar.
So if you spot a man in a crown, possibly wielding a mace and definitely laughing at a pun no one else gets—that’s Slabovia. Come say hi.
